Motion Based Message Conveyer For Paralytic/Disabled People

Robotics & Engineering

Project Results

Successfully developed a low-cost communication device for disabled patients, utilising an accelerometer connected to movable body parts to transmit signals via RF technology. The system enables effective communication with medical personnel, enhancing patient care and well-being while remaining cost-effective and accessible.

Project Description

I've embarked on a project to address the communication challenges faced by paralytic or disabled patients by developing a low-cost, dependable device. This device enables patients to communicate with medical personnel simply by tilting an accelerometer connected to any movable body part.

The system works by interpreting the angle of tilt whenever the bedridden patient moves their limb. This information is then transmitted via an RF transmitter, encoded for security, and received by an RF receiver. At the receiving end, I have added a microcontroller that decodes the data, displaying messages on a screen. Additionally, a buzzer is triggered to alert nurses or attendants upon receiving a motion signal from the accelerometer.

By providing a reliable and effective means for disabled patients to communicate their needs, this solution enhances their quality of care and overall well-being. Moreover, it achieves these objectives while remaining cost-effective, making it accessible to a broader range of patients in need.
